We are a Business Membership Organization with over 3000 registered members of Kenyans from all economics spheres in Kenya.
Our Vision
To be a leading regional provider of accomplished services in partnership with policymakers and fellow stakeholders, with a view of entrenching equitable trade as well as ensure practicability and sustainability of policy directives, to the benefit of government and Kenyans in general.
Our Mission
To better the business environment in Kenya through promoting mutual understanding between policymakers and stakeholders, and creating awareness on issues affecting the stability and progress of local businesses.
Where we started
UBA was started in 2001 as United Retail Traders Welfare Society (URTWS) and over time metamorphosized into United Business Association, URTWS came about spontaneously to lobby against the introduction of the Stock Card Issue, which would have imposed on traders the onerous task of keeping a trail of stock-in-trade on a daily basis. At that time, there were no organizations the average business person could readily approach to represent issues; the business organizations back then had different priorities and could not afford the ordinary business person the required attention.
Soon after registration, URTWS received membership from the whole spectrum of businesses; namely, retail, wholesale, manufacturing and providers of professional services. This necessitated the then committee to change the name to United Business Welfare Society (UBWS). Again, a problem arose in that a welfare society cannot sue or be sued. This snag continued to hound the organization even when legal recourse was deemed expedient after respondent parties shut their doors to dialogue.
The name of the organization was then changed to UNITED BUSINESS ASSOCIATION (UBA); this outfit now provided the organization with legal capability of taking matters to court for adjudication on behalf of members, hence enabling the Association to appeal to more areas of business activities and deal with members’ issues effectively.
